Fort William
Telford House West
Retreat Menu +

Built by the famed Scottish engineer Thomas Telford, this historic semi-detached property offers spectacular views to Ben Nevis.

This striking house sits looking over the Caledonian canal and, in the distance, the spectacular Ben Nevis. Ideally located in the heart of one of Scotland’s centres of adventure activities, Telford House is a delightful spot to return to after a day out. If you are too weary to cook you can walk to the nearby hotel for meals or have a picnic in the garden looking across the canal.

Inside this is a beautifully furnished house – a perfect mix of modern and antique with a stylish twist. The sitting room with its wood burning stove is both welcoming and restful whilst from the dining room you can see the boats move through the canal. Two bedrooms are finished with crisp white linens – ideal for a good sleep. This is a lovely house with slightly more spacious rooms and higher ceilings than a cottage.

Telford House West, a former lock keeper’s cottage is adjacent to Telford House East. Built by the famed Scottish engineer Thomas Telford, this historic semi-detached property offers breath-taking views to Ben Nevis and across the glen. If it’s Scottish scenery you’re looking for, you’ll find some of the best of it here. The views from the property are hard to believe, with Neptune’s Staircase and Ben Nevis framing the incredible landscape. Outside, there’s a peaceful seating area with equally impressive views. This is a bright, spacious house with loads of character and plenty of charm.

Telford house is in the village of Banavie, just north of Loch Linnhe. Only about four miles from Fort William, it’s a million miles from everyday life. A perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the country, it also has plenty to offer anyone looking for more adventure. The village itself is well worth exploring. Part of the Great Glen Way, it has plenty of walking and cycling paths that will help you get to know the area. There are some first-class places to eat and drink, all offering a warm Highland welcome.

If you want to go further afield, the West Highland train line stops in Banavie. It’ll take you anywhere you’d like to go between Fort William and Mallaig. With views of the Great Glen at every turn, it beats any other commute in the country hands down. Starting from Fort William, you could even take a journey on the ‘Hogwarts Express’ – also known as the Jacobite Steam Train. It’s a magical journey whether or not you’re a Harry Potter fan. Skiing and Snowboarding is available in the Winter season in the Glencoe and Nevis range.

Known as ‘the outdoor capital of the UK’, there’s no better place than Fort William for outdoor activities. Whether you want to go walking or climbing, canyoning or canoeing, you’ll find it here. You can even try paragliding if you’re feeling adventurous. If you prefer to have your feet firmly on the ground – or under it – visit the Treasures of the Earth museum. It’s an underground experience with a difference. Gemstones, crystals and fossils displayed in man-made caves, caverns and mines – you’ll forget you’re still on the surface. But whether you’re above ground, on it or under it, there’s so much to do at Telford House that you’ll wish you were staying for longer. And we’re pretty sure you’ll be back.
