Fort William
Telford House East
Retreat Menu +

An exceptional two-bedroom home, footsteps from the iconic Neptune's Staircase and boasting spectacular views of Ben Nevis.

Neptune’s Staircase is the longest staircase lock in the UK, and probably the most famous. It’s an incredible sight at any time – and Telford House East allows you to take it in from your bedroom window! Originally built by the famed Scottish engineer Thomas Telford, this historic semi-detached property offers breathtaking views to Ben Nevis and across the glen. If it’s Scottish scenery you’re looking for, you’ll find some of the best of it here.

Sensitively restored in 2012, the double and twin bedrooms are decorated in a homely style and offer plenty of space for four guests. Downstairs, there’s a well-equipped kitchen and family bathroom as well as a dining room with cosy wood-burning stove. The views from the sitting room are hard to believe, with soft sofas and comfortable armchairs to snuggle up in after days spent exploring. Stepping outside, guests can find a peaceful garden with equally impressive views.

Nestled in the quaint village of Banavie, just north of Loch Linnhe, Telford House West is only about four miles from Fort William yet a million miles from everyday life. The village itself is well worth exploring - part of the Great Glen Way, it has plenty of walking and cycling paths that will help you get to know the area. There are some first-class places to eat and drink, all offering a warm Highland welcome.

If you want to go further afield, the West Highland train line stops in Banavie and will take you anywhere you’d like to go between Fort William and Mallaig. With views of the Great Glen at every turn, it beats any other commute in the country hands down. You could even take a journey on the ‘Hogwarts Express’ from nearby Fort William – also known as the Jacobite Steam Train (it’s a magical journey whether or not you’re a Harry Potter fan!).

Known as the 'Outdoor Adventure Capital of the UK', Fort William offers walking, climbing, canyoning, canoeing - even paragliding if you’re feeling adventurous! If you prefer to have your feet firmly on the ground – or under it – visit the Treasures of the Earth museum, an underground experience with a difference.
