Charming 2-bedroom, former lock-keepers cottage set on the banks of the Crinan Canal

Seaview Cottage is a former lock keeper’s cottage set on the banks of the Crinan Canal, just 1/4 mile from Crinan Habour. Seaview Cottage, circa 1815, has undergone a £75,000 renovation – carried out by Scottish Canals and local builders, DMcDonald preserving this historically important building for future generations to enjoy.

The property sleeps 4 and has 2 bedrooms, lounge, dining room, TV room, fully equipped kitchen and family bathroom. As with all of our Canalside Cottages, guests can expect facilities of the highest standard and cosy, comfortable surroundings with a unique Scottish twist.

There’s loads to do in the nearby area, for visitors of all ages, plus plenty of the glorious natural scenery Scotland is famed for (including views of Minkie Whales from the cottage!). The Crinan Harbour is a short walk from Seaview, plus a fantastic looped and signposted walk is available from your doorstep which is a great hike for getting to know the area.

Ten minutes drive from Seaview Cottage, guests can enjoy the most beautiful local seafood including hand-dived mussels and scallops, plus incredible fish & chips at the Tavvalich Inn. This family friendly pub (open in the winter too) and the surrounding area is great for family walks to burn off their hearty dishes!

For a wonderful half-day out with your young explorers, Tarbert Village is a 25 minute drive from the cottage. This picture-postcard village boasts one of Scotland’s very few original natural harbours and is great for a relaxing walk by the water. Try the Gallery Café for mouth-watering home-made pizzas and fantastic coffee. Pop into the electrical shop on the high street here for fishing gear, and practice your reel on return back at Seaview Cottage where you can catch mackerel and crab from the sea waters!

There is also Oban, a slightly longer drive away but with plenty of pretty stop-offs along the way. Here you can find all of your main amenities including large supermarkets and coffee shops, as well as great restaurants including Cuan Mor on George Street.

The intriguing and sometimes strange history of Scotland comes vividly to life at the internationally-acclaimed Kilmartin House Museum in Lochgilphead. Visitors can see the items recovered from the area’s ancient monuments and hear the history behind them. Guests can actually cycle to Lochgilphead from the front door of Seaview Cottage via the 9 mile tow path trail where you can spot dolphins, seals and ospreys too!

There’s plenty to see in the wild. Eagles hunt overhead as seals bask on the beaches. And nearby Knapdale is home to the Scottish Beaver Trail, so there’s always the chance of seeing one gnawing on a tree trunk somewhere! You can spot Scotland’s sea life from the Oban and Kennacraig ferries. Dolphins, diving birds, puffins and even the occasional basking shark. Destinations from Oban include Gigha, Mull and Colonsay, while from Kennacraig you can reach Islay and the Inner Hebrides. Whilst in Oban, check out the sea life centre with it’s great short nature hike.

When you return from your adventures, you’ll find a warm welcome and superb seafood at the Crinan Hotel, known for its friendly atmosphere and excellent service.
