Rock Holiday Cottages on the doorstep of a haven for Watersports Enthusiasts
With its position on the River Camel opposite Padstow, Rock enjoys an enviable location that is much sought after as a holiday destination. Rub shoulders with celebs of TV, film and even the odd royal as you explore the ‘Kensington by the Sea’ when you stay in one of our Rock holiday cottages.
Rock has long been a place popular for family holidays. Whether fishing, sailing, windsurfing or water-skiing there are no end of watersports for all ages and all levels of experience. For the less active there is a short ferry ride to the delightful fishing port of Padstow with its cafes, shops and places of interest. There are shops and cafes too on the Rock side of the river, as well as the wonderful St.Enodoc Hotel with its spa and restaurant.
Said to have got its unusual name from the local quarry that once provided ballast for ships sailing from Padstow harbour on the opposite side of the Camel Estuary, Rock is a great place to find a seat, enjoy a drink and watch the world go by. Rock combines a beautiful coastal setting with its position across the camel estuary from Padstow. At low tide a mile of sand leads round to Daymer Bay - popular with families - and its sheltered setting means it’s a haven for angling, sailing, rowing and water-skiing. Rock, more than anywhere in Cornwall, has many high-end, high-quality bars, restaurants and shops.
Beach holidays in Rock never disappoint because here you have easy access to the best beaches in the area. From Rock itself you can walk round the sandy shores of the Camel Estuary to Daymer Bay. Alternatively you can take the regular ferry to the beaches on the Padstow side of the estuary. If you fancy a surf you can drive round to Hayle Bay and the large beach at Polzeath. A half hour drive in the car will take you to the many beaches between the Camel Estuary and Newquay.
Natural Retreats offers several luxury self catering holiday cottages in Rock and many in the surrounding area, all of which are just a short distance to the river and the great local beaches.
