What was it about the local area that inspired you to purchase a holiday property, both from an investment and holidaymaker perspective?

We have been coming down to this area for over 30 years with our family and we have come to love the place.  The coast and countryside are beautiful and the beaches don’t get busy, even in high season.  Our research suggested that Cornwall represented a good investment opportunity because of the natural beauty of the area and the number, quality and variety of attractions for the family.  It ticked virtually all the boxes in terms of what visitors would be looking for. Trewhiddle in particular is ideally situated being equidistant from the very best North and South coast beaches.

 

Is this your first holiday home purchase, and has it lived up to your expectations?

This is our first holiday home purchase.  We brought the property to use both for ourselves and family and friends and as an investment.  It has certainly lived up to our expectations as a holiday destination for our selves and the investment returns look promising.

 

What is it about Natural Retreats as a business that appealed to you when purchasing a holiday property?

There were a variety of factors: (i) their marketing and branding was strong and they were at a desirable price point in the marketplace to provide a good return on our investment; (ii) our initial and subsequent dealings with local and national representatives of Natural Retreats have been very positive.

 

How would you describe your relationship with the team at Natural Retreats?

Our interactions have been with the local and head office teams.  The local teams have been extremely professional, friendly and helpful.  Similarly, our contacts with head office have been highly professional and business-like, always doing things when they said they would and being understanding during our first few months of ownership when we were learning the ropes.

 

Has the Owner’s Portal helped you to keep up-to-date with your investment?

Yes it has been very helpful.  The data supplied is accurate and helpful and it makes it easy to keep track of our bookings, costs and income.  It can be accessed via the phone and iPad so it is especially easy to use.

 

Have you been happy with the service you have received from Natural Retreats?

Yes we have been delighted with the service we have received. The local team go out of their way to make all the potentially time consuming aspects of being an owner very easy and efficient.  In particular, they are able to help in a whole range of ways from arranging for maintenance, monitoring standards of cleanliness, providing advice on any necessary updates and taking deliveries.
 

Do you have any top tips or words of advice for those looking to purchase a holiday home?

The decision has to be a mix of the head and the heart if you see it as an investment as well as a home for holiday use so:  (i) do your sums in some detail - Natural Retreats helpfully supplied a lot of past data to help us understand the income, costs and the potential return on our investment; (ii) check out whether you and family and friends will actually want to use it and whether the configuration is suitable for them; (iii) try it out before you buy and take plenty of time to make your decision; (iv) be prepared to spend a little time learning how to manage the finances – Natural Retreats make it very easy but there is still work to be done for example regarding income tax, business rates etc.

What was it about the local area that inspired you to purchase a holiday property, both from an investment and holidaymaker perspective?

We wanted somewhere quiet but with easy access to South Cornwall and the Northern  Coast. Trewhiddle ticks those boxes nicely.

 

Is this your first holiday home purchase, and has it lived up to your expectations?

No, we previously owned a cottage in Fowey and have been delighted with the tranquillity of Trewhiddle easy parking and the absence of tourists.

 

What is it about Natural Retreats as a business that appealed to you when purchasing a holiday property?

We wanted a company with high housekeeping standards and a commitment to providing a very natural environment. The last thing we wanted was a holiday camp!

 

How would you describe your relationship with the team at Natural Retreats?

Excellent! Easy to talk to, quick to respond and keen on customer care. On top of that very friendly.

 

Has the Owner’s Portal helped you to keep up-to-date with your investment?

Yes, it’s a good tool and we use it both for our own bookings and seeing how bookings are going generally.

Do you have any top tips or words of advice for those looking to purchase a holiday home?

Start with Natural Retreats and then ask to look at Trewhiddle. You will find a different experience awaits you, its tranquil, its informal and its relaxing – both for you the owner and for your guests that use the house.

What was it about the local area that inspired you to purchase a holiday property, both from an investment and holidaymaker perspective?

Having enjoyed many holidays over the last twenty plus years in the south west we finally chose Natural Retreats in St Austell for our holiday home as it was central to all that is on offer. We also believe that our holiday home makes a great investment as Cornwall is full of history and places to explore with no two visits being the same, with that people will naturally return to explore all that is on offer.

 

Is this your first holiday home purchase, and has it lived up to your expectations?

No we have purchased other holiday/ investment property before but not in the UK. This has though by far lived up to and exceeded expectations for both an investment and our personal holiday expectations.

 

What is it about Natural Retreats as a business that appealed to you when purchasing a holiday property?

We have found the staff at Natural Retreats to be enthusiastic and passionate during our initial viewing process which made the decision to buy with them an easy one. This same ethic from them continues three years on. We also find the business model to us as owners to be fair, open, honest and well balanced. We are well informed on site maintenance that may have any possible effect to the site, along with up and coming requirements that are recommended on our own property.
 

How would you describe your relationship with the team at Natural Retreats?

Our relationship with the N/R team has been excellent, with never a cause for complaint from ourselves.  Should any area need attention we only have to ask and it is swiftly addressed. We find the team on site always approachable to discuss anything from replacing a worn or damaged item, through to where is the best butchers they really are happy to help.

 

Have you been happy with the service you have received from Natural Retreats?

The service we receive is very good with an excellent line of dialogue between ourselves and any department within the NR business.

 

Do you have any top tips or words of advice for those looking to purchase a holiday home?

Natural Retreats should be a serious consideration for anyone looking for a holiday home or investment property, certainly from our in St Austell experience. NR are well versed at what they do and from an owner and holidaymakers view I believe they do it very very well.

 

Lodge #16 - Natural Retreats Yorkshire Dales - June 2018

 

What was it about the local area that inspired you to purchase a holiday property, both from an investment and holidaymaker perspective?

Having been to the Yorkshire Dales area on holiday , once to Arkengarthdale and more recently on a few occasions  staying at the Natural Retreats site I just find this part of the country a wonderful place to be in, particularly in terms of its stunning countryside. Such beautiful views and also interesting towns and villages. Richmond, with its impressive castle and the beautiful Swale river, is a great town to have on your doorstep. Having said that , although I love the area and that of course makes a huge difference , it was in particular the design and decor of the lodges and the nature of The Natural Retreats site which inspired me to purchase. It's just a place I love to be when we are there, the open plan design and the views are so relaxing and from an investment point of view , it's an extremely comfortable, inspiring place for people to stay in, whilst also being surrounded by beautiful countryside and lots of possibilities of things to do.

 

Is this your first holiday home purchase, and has it lived up to your expectations?

This is our first holiday purchase and it has lived up to our expectations. The lodge is always beautifully prepared for us when we arrive as it is for all guests and if we need anything at all, the onsite team are always extremely helpful and very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Lights and heating are on if necessary for when we arrive . As a result, all we have to do is just turn up and enjoy being there. In terms of letting out the property, everything is done by Natural Retreats, but we are kept informed at every step by e-mail as soon as we get a booking and for all the rest of the information we need to know. The whole process is clear and straightforwardly done. As an investment, the rental income has so far covered all our outgoings regarding the lodge i.e the quarterly maintenance charge, the insurance costs, redecoration and any replacement charges that have been necessary, as well as paying  the monthly rental of our home in the peak district, so we are happy with our decision.

 

What is it about Natural Retreats as a business that appealed to you when purchasing a holiday property?

What appeals to me most about Natural Retreats is the way they conduct themselves. They are extremely straightforward and clear in what they do.  I wouldn't have even considered buying a property if this hadn't been the case.  I like the way they manage the site so that it maintains its natural state and how everything is done to a high standard. Also, I like the clarity of the agreement and the set up between them and the owners. From my experience, it is an arrangement which works very well.

 

How would you describe your relationship with the team at Natural Retreats?

I would describe our relationship with the team at Natural Retreats as an extremely good one. Again, this stems from the way they work . From the process of purchase through to being an owner, all questions have been answered and any problems sorted.  There is always someone accessible to answer any queries that arise either in person, on the phone or by email and they get back to you straight away. The office team are always helpful and reliable and the onsite team could not be any better. They are not in your face, but always on hand if you need anything at all or have a problem that needs sorting. They go out of their way to be helpful.

 

Has the Owner’s Portal helped you to keep up-to-date with your investment?

The owners portal is excellent. I cant fault it. Extremely clear and very easy to use. All information is there and very easy to access. It is a great record of all bookings and income and outgoings from when we purchased the lodge . Every monthly statement is on there and the calendar clearly shows all up and coming lettings. Everything is instantly updated. You can make your own bookings through the portal which go onto the calendar instantly, so that those dates are not free for renting. These can also be edited yourself if circumstances change.  The portal is invaluable as a way of keeping up to date with everything. It has been extremely well thought out and is enjoyable to use.

 

Have you been happy with the service you have received from Natural Retreats?

I have been extremely happy with the service I have received and that is ongoing.  Very good communication has been an important part of that and its obvious that this is an integral part of how Natural Retreats functions. As an owner I am very impressed with the high standard of work carried out at every level and as a result the lodges and the site are extremely well maintained .  Another important part of the service is the booking of the lodges, all done by Natural Retreats in a seamless way, which makes owning a holiday lodge so much easier.

 

Do you have any top tips or words of advice for those looking to purchase a holiday home?

I would recommend asking all questions in detail and finding out exactly how things work and what the agreement is before going ahead with the purchase.  From a financial point of view , things need to be clearly understood . It also has to feel right . I would not have considered purchasing if I hadn't been inspired by the actual lodge we bought.  I would also say it's very important that you feel happy with how the process works and with the company that you are making the agreement with.
