Canalside Cottages
Divach Falls

Part of the Scottish Forestry Commission's network of fantastic hikes and walks throughout this region, the short hike to Divach Falls is one for the bucket list during your visit to Loch Ness or Fort Augustus. Driving up the steep hills to the small car park, passengers can swivel round to marvel at the incredible views of Loch Ness from the road, as well as the hairy Highland Cows that grace the nearby farmers fields!

Walking through the woodland, dappled with natural light, visitors can enjoy spectacular valley views before happening upon the dramatic cascade. The water tumbles 100 feet (30 metres) to the Divach Burn, before flowing out into Urquhart Bay on Loch Ness. This is a perfect spot for a picnic, taking in the sound of the crashing water whilst tucking into local treats. There is plenty of wildlife to spot, including buzzards circling the thermals. Allow about half an hour to walk down to the falls and back, along an obvious but unmarked earth path.

Getting There

Divach Falls is about 2 miles (3 km) south of Drumnadrochit, at the end of an unclassified road.

Look for a turning off the A82 on the south side of the village, called Balmacaan Road and signposted to Balmacaan and Divach. Follow this road for about ½ mile (800 metres), then keep right onto a single-track road. After about another mile (1.6km), you’ll see the small car parking area on your right.
